Week One: Welcome

I’m sitting with something today that feels important to say out loud: I’m genuinely excited about what’s ahead.

Not in a naive way. I know the systems we’re talking about. I’ve been inside them. I’ve worked inside them. I know how they’re built—the rules, the walls, the ways they’re designed to keep people stuck. But I also know something else: those rules can be learned, understood, and navigated.

That’s what Phoenix Uprising exists to do.

For My Community

This work is for the people who raised me. The community. The street families, the mentors, the people who showed me how to survive when survival was the only option. The ones who kept me alive when the systems were trying to break me. The ones who asked nothing but showed me everything.

This is for them, and everyone like them.

You survived things that weren’t supposed to be survivable. You learned to read systems designed to confuse you. You figured out how to get money, find shelter, protect yourself, keep moving. And somewhere along the way—whether it took five years or twenty—you figured out that survival alone isn’t enough. That there’s something beyond just staying afloat.

There’s thriving. There’s building something. There’s power in understanding the very systems that tried to destroy you.

Survival → Strategy → Leadership

I built Phoenix Uprising on the belief that the journey doesn’t end at survival. It starts there.

Right now, there are people:

  • In juvenile detention wondering if they’ll survive it
  • Out of prison trying to figure out where to go next
  • Navigating benefits systems that feel intentionally confusing
  • Looking for housing with a record they can’t escape
  • Protecting their mental health in places that don’t care about it
  • Trying to rebuild family when trust feels impossible

This platform, these guides, this book—they’re not for people who need inspiration. You don’t need another talk that makes you feel good for three days. You need actual information. Strategic tools. Someone who understands because they’ve been there.

What’s Coming

Weekly blog posts about navigating systems, survival strategy, and what it actually looks like to move from thriving-adjacent into real thriving.

Guides you can actually use—on benefits, on reentry, on housing, on legal basics, on employment, on mental health, on rebuilding relationships.

A book that tells the truth about what systems do and how to survive them.

A workbook series because understanding systems is good, but having tools to apply that understanding is better.

And community. People who get it because they’ve lived it.

To My People

To the ones who raised me, supported me, and showed me that survival can become strategy: this is for you. Not to rescue you or save you—you’re already surviving, already thriving in ways the system never measured. But maybe to give you language for what you already know. Tools for what you already do. Community for what you’ve already built.

Survival turns into strategy here. Strategy turns into power.

Welcome.
